Senate Concurrent Resolution 655

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY JUNIOR FORWARD CHRIS SYKES FOR BEING VOTED ONTO THE NCAA DIVISION II ALL-AMERICA BASKETBALL SECOND TEAM. 

WHEREAS, Delta State University forward Chris Sykes was named a second-team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Chevrolet; and

WHEREAS, Sykes, a 6-6, 225-pound junior from Aberdeen, Mississippi, leads the Statesmen in scoring (17.1 points per game) and rebounding (10.5); and

WHEREAS, he joined fellow All-American Antonio Garcia of Kentucky Wesleyan and Ryan Miller of Northern State in this year's Division II Elite Eight Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, DSU Coach Steve Rives was honored that Sykes was selected both to the Coaches and the Sports Information Director's teams, stating, "We wouldn't be here without him"; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this explosive basketball player who has brought such honor to his university, his community, and his state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Delta State Junior forward Chris Sykes from Aberdeen, Mississippi, for being voted onto the NCAA Division II All-America basketball second team, and wish him success in his future athletic, academic and career endeavors.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to Chris Sykes, the Athletic Department of Delta State University, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
