Senate Concurrent Resolution 652

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE WEST UNION COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the West Union County High School Girls Basketball Team finished the 1997-1998 season with an outstanding record of 34 wins and 4 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles are the 1997-1998 State 1-A Champions by virtue of winning the championship tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles competed well in tournament play, winning the West Union Round Robin, the Myrtle Invitational Tournament, the Union County Tournament, the North State Tournament, and the State Tournament; and finishing in second place in the Division 2-1A Tournament; and

WHEREAS, special recognition should be given to Jill Goolsby (All-State, All-North State); Tarra Kirk (All-State, All-North State); Tasha Kitchens (All-State, All-North State); and Jennifer Carter (All-North State); and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Ken Basil and Assistant Coach Jody Johnson, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Eagles have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a great degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon individual players and their coaches and bring honor to West Union County High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the West Union County High School Girls Basketball Team for its outstanding season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to West Union County High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
