A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI'S 1998 TEACHER OF THE YEAR, TINA SCHOLTES, OF SUDDETH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI. 

WHEREAS, Mississippi's 1998 Teacher of the Year is Tina F. Scholtes of Suddeth Elementary School in Starkville, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Scholtes was chosen from five veteran educators selected by an independent State Department of Education committee from local school district Teacher of the Year applications, and the winner was announced at a special banquet held in Jackson, Mississippi, at the Walthall Hotel; and

WHEREAS, applicants are evaluated in a number of areas, including teaching philosophy, participation in teacher training, and school involvement; and

WHEREAS, Tina Scholtes is a 16-year veteran of teaching first-graders, earned her bachelors and master's degrees from Mississippi State University, and feels that this award is a positive reinforcement for teachers across the state; and

WHEREAS, Scholtes succeeds 1997 Teacher of the Year Martha Hutson, a ninth-grade social studies teacher at Sumner Hill Junior High in Clinton; and

WHEREAS, this award ceremony is part of an annual professional workshop sponsored by the Mississippi Teacher Center which presents an excellent opportunity for teachers to exchange professional teaching methods and new ideas, and to receive reinforcement from their colleagues; and

 

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding educator who has brought honor to her profession, her school and to her state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mississippi's 1998 Teacher of the Year Tina F. Scholtes of Suddeth Elementary School in Starkville, Mississippi, and wish her continued success in her professional career.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Tina Scholtes and the Principal of Suddeth Elementary School, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
