A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING GATEWAY RESCUE MISSION IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, UPON ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY AND PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 21, 1998, AS GATEWAY RESCUE MISSION DAY OF APPRECIATION. 

WHEREAS, on September 22, 1948, Gateway Rescue Mission in Jackson, Mississippi, was founded by Captain Lynn Martin of the Jackson City Fire Department for the purpose of assisting homeless and needy people; and

WHEREAS, for the past fifty years Gateway Rescue Mission has sheltered, served hot meals and assisted hundreds of thousands of needy Mississippians; and

WHEREAS, Gateway Rescue Mission is governed by a board of directors made up of Christian business and professional men who serve without pay; the mission receives no federal, state, city or United Way funds but is 100% supported from free-will donations from individuals and congregations with the need to give; and

WHEREAS, on September 21, 1998, Gateway Rescue Mission will celebrate fifty years of dedicated service to the State of Mississippi without any public assistance;

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this anniversary of this organization committed and dedicated to the most needy of individuals:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Gateway Rescue Mission of Jackson, Mississippi, for its commitment and dedication to the needy and do hereby proclaim the 21st day of September 1998, as

 

GATEWAY RESCUE MISSION DAY OF APPRECIATION

throughout the great State of Mississippi and encourage all citizens to follow the example of Gateway Rescue Mission and join in community efforts to help the homeless and the needy of our state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to Rev. John Eade, Executive Director of Gateway Rescue Mission, and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
