Senate Concurrent Resolution 638

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE FALKNER HIGH SCHOOL EAGLES BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE M.H.S.A.A. CLASS 1A STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, the Falkner, Mississippi, High School "Eagles" Boys Basketball Team won the Mississippi High School Athletic Association Class 1A State Basketball Championship by defeating Ingomar 70-61 on March 12, 1998; and

WHEREAS, this championship was the culmination of an outstanding 1997-1998 season for the Eagles who finished with a record of 32 wins and 6 losses; and

WHEREAS, the team did very well in tournament play this year, winning the Tippah County Championship, the Division 1A Championship at Pine Grove, Mississippi, and the North State Class 1A Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed upon team members in recognition of their fine and dedicated play, and the 5 All-Division team starters are as follows: Edward "Pig" Prather, John Wilkerson, Shino Edgeston, Marcus Boyd and Tate Gaillard; and

WHEREAS, the Eagles have been well coached and inspired by Head Coach Tim Leatherwood, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the team has developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to their school, county and state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Falkner High School "Eagles" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Tim Leatherwood for winning the Mississippi High School Athletics Association Class 1A Boys Basketball Championship, and for their outstanding 1997-1998 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

Be IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Falkner High School, Coach Leatherwood and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
