A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF JOE FRANK SANDERSON. 

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson departed this life on Sunday, January 4, 1998, causing great loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson was a pioneer in the integrated poultry business; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson was the Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Sanderson Farms Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson was a 1947 graduate of Mississippi State University with degrees in business and accounting; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson served at the forefront of promoting education at the local, community and state levels; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson served on the Board of Trustees of the Laurel Separate School District, and Belhaven and Millsaps Colleges; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson established a One-Million-Dollar Challenge Program at Mississippi State University to promote excellence in teaching, research and service programs; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson contributed a significant portion of the 19 Million Dollars to construct the student health and recreation center at Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson served as President of the Mississippi State University Development Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson served as Chairman and Director of the National Broiler Council and the Mississippi Poultry Association; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson served as Chairman of the Mississippi Manufacturer's Association; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson was inducted into the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson received the Mississippi Business All-Star Award from the Mississippi Economic Council in 1991; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson was named Mississippi Philanthropist of the Year in 1994, and Humanitarian of the Year in 1995 by the Laurel Junior Auxiliary; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson served as a navigator in the Army Air Corps during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Joe Frank Sanderson was an active member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as Ruling Elder; and

WHEREAS, his passing deprives Mississippi and his community of one of its most dynamic and honorable businessmen:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and accomplishments of Joe Frank Sanderson as an outstanding example of leadership and service to others and extend deepest sympathy to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joe Frank Sanderson.
