A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE AMERICAN RED CROSS AND RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH 1998 AS RED CROSS MONTH IN MISSISSIPPI. 

WHEREAS, the mission of the American Red Cross is to improve the quality of human life, to enhance self-reliance and concern for others and to help people avoid, prepare for and cope with emergencies; and

WHEREAS, the month of March has been designated as Red Cross Month in Mississippi in order to bring recognition to the humanitarian sections of the Red Cross which have assisted thousands of individuals; and

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross is the nation's foremost volunteer emergency services organization with nearly 2,400 chapters located throughout the United States, its territories and U.S. military installations around the world; and

WHEREAS, each year the Red Cross responds to more than 50,000 disasters ranging from home fires to major disasters such as hurricanes, floods and tornadoes; and

WHEREAS, the Red Cross is actively involved in training individuals in health and safety courses, as well as educating the public on how to respond to disasters; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Chapters of the American Red Cross have been very active in disaster relief for the citizens of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, by recognizing March 1998 as Red Cross Month in Mississippi, the mission of the Red Cross will be enhanced and the good deeds of the Red Cross will be expanded; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to make the citizens of this state aware of events that will benefit all Mississippians:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend the American Red Cross for its many contributions in the State of Mississippi, throughout the United States and around the world, and recognize March 1998 as Red Cross Month in Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to all Mississippi Red Cross Chapters and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
