A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF ROBERT MICHAEL "BOB" HARTLEY. 

WHEREAS, Robert Michael "Bob" Hartley departed this life on Wednesday, August 27, 1997, causing great loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was a legend in his field, held in the highest respect and regarded with deepest affection; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley served over 50 years with Mississippi State University and was the University's greatest goodwill ambassador; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley set the standard by which sports information directors are measured; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was a charter member of the College Sports Information Directors of America and served as president in 1962-1963; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was a charter selection into the College Sports Information Directors of America (CSDIA) Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley received the CSDIA's highest award, the Arch Ward award, recognizing him as the most outstanding sports information director in the collegiate ranks; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, becoming the first sports information director to be inducted; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was also inducted into the Mississippi Sportswriters Hall of Fame and the Mississippi State University Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was very active in community and civic affairs; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was a charter member of the Starkville Kiwanis Club and received the Kiwanis Legion of Merit Award in 1989; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was a genial man known for his sense of humor and practical jokes; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley was a gentleman whose graciousness and kindness touched those he met; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley's friends span generations and all walks of life; and

WHEREAS, Bob Hartley is survived by his loving wife, Jean, and three daughters: Pamela, Patti Jean and Peggy:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend the life of Robert Michael "Bob" Hartley and extend our deepest sympathy to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Hartley.
