A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF GREENVILLE CITY COUNCILMAN KING BROWN, SR., AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE. 

WHEREAS, Greenville, Mississippi, Councilman King Brown, Sr., passed away on February 8, 1998; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Brown was born March 3, 1942, in Foote, Mississippi, he attended school in the Leland public school district, was an honor graduate of Coahoma Community College and attended Delta State University, where he majored in political science; and

WHEREAS, King was a true source of encouragement for all those who worked around him, serving as manager and sales consultant at White's Auto, Otasco and Patty Peck in Greenville; and

WHEREAS, in December 1995, King was elected City Councilman for Ward 2 in Greenville, and it was here that he left his hallmark for the City of Greenville, working diligently to promote harmony in the city; and

WHEREAS, King served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966, where he received numerous medals for good conduct, national defense and Vietnam service, and later was very active in community service, serving as assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop Pack 412, and was a member of VFW Post 9732, and an active member of 100 Black Men of the Delta; and

WHEREAS, in the army of the Lord, he was an active member of New Hope First Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a deacon of the church and member of the Gospel Choir until his death; and

he is survived by his wife, Gloria Brown, two sons, Levi Tyler and King Brown, Jr., six daughters, Alice, Wendy, Wanda, Sharon, Tomeka, Kendra and Catherine, three brothers, four sisters, one grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends; and

WHEREAS, King touched the lives of everyone with his warm smile and kind words and will be missed by his community and state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Greenville City Councilman King Brown, Sr., and express the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Greenville City Council and the family of King Brown and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
