Senate Concurrent Resolution 585

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. JAMES R. WIGINTON, LONG-TIME PRINCIPAL OF PRENTISS HIGH SCHOOL, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, on Thursday, December 18, 1998, Mr. James R. Wiginton was honored by his faculty with a retirement program in the Prentiss High School Cafeteria, and following the program, a reception followed where guests shared memories from the past 12-1/2 years that Mr. Wiginton has served as Principal of Prentiss High School in Prentiss, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wiginton's formal education consists of graduation from Tremont High School and Itawamba Junior College, and after graduation from Itawamba, he started teaching the fourth grade until he was drafted into the U.S. Army; after his military service he entered Mississippi State University, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and Physical Education and a Master's Degree in School Administration; and
WHEREAS, he began his teaching career at Agricola Attendance Center as a math teacher, assistant principal and basketball coach; at Agricola, Mr. Wiginton set a state record in girl's basketball by winning 82 consecutive games; after working as a statistician with the Mississippi Highway Department he returned to education serving as Supervising Principal at Mendenhall Attendance Center where he stayed for the next 12 years, and before coming to Prentiss, he was Principal at Marks Attendance Center for 6 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wiginton has been a driving force, not only at Prentiss High School, but in the community as well, having shown a deep commitment to the school system of this county, to the parents and to the students; and
WHEREAS, he has touched many lives during his tenure at Prentiss High school and will be greatly missed, and it is with great pleasure that we recognize the dedicated career of this school administrator:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. James R. Wiginton for his long and dedicated service as Principal of Prentiss High School and wish him success upon the occasion of his retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this Resolution be presented to Mr. Wiginton and forwarded to the Jefferson Davis County Board of Education, and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
