A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI ARTS COMMISSION UPON ITS THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY. 

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission was established by the 1968 Legislature and now celebrates 30 years of service to the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission reflects a long and prosperous relationship with Mississippi's citizens and their elected officials; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission currently serves 1.3 million Mississippians annually; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission's granting power has grown from $80,000.00 in 1970 to more than $1,000,000.00 for the current fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission has worked to ensure the prosperity and growth of Mississippi's nonprofit arts organizations, which have inspired, educated and entertained millions of Mississippians; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission, staff and board members have collaborated with citizens across Mississippi on countless festivals, performances, exhibitions and special projects that have stretched Mississippi's artistic boundaries and enhanced her cultural heritage; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission continues to promote the cultural wealth of our state which has given our country and the world distinctive forms of music, oratory, stories, literature, and folk and visual arts; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission fosters strong partnerships between communities, schools and businesses, contributing to the creative life of the community, improving the community business climate through cultural and social amenities, thereby making communities better places to live; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission has honored the lasting achievements of artists and arts supporters through the annual and prestigious Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission has been nationally recognized for innovative and successful programs in arts education and in rural communities; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Arts Commission has contributed to many of the most important, progressive and long-lasting artistic enterprises in Mississippi, resulting from the commitments and talents of thousands of Mississippians:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Mississippi Arts Commission on its Thirtieth Anniversary.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Arts Commission and the members of the Capital Press Corps.
