Senate Concurrent Resolution 571

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COLUMBIA, MISSISSIPPI, DIXIE GIRLS' SOFTBALL TEAMS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING TOURNAMENT PLAY. 

WHEREAS, the Columbia, Mississippi, Dixie Girls' Softball Teams stood the nation on its collective ear this year with their softball savvy and finesse; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Debs, the oldest of the girls teams (ages 16-18), and the Dixie Belles, the next oldest team (ages 13-15), both captured the World Series Championship in their respective leagues; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Ponytails (ages 10-12) took the State Championship and finished in second place at the World Series Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Angels (ages 7-9) won the State Championship, but unfortunately did not have a national tournament in which to compete further; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Debs and Belles are a consistent force in state and national World Series play; and

WHEREAS, the girls for these four teams deserve the praise, admiration and congratulations of the city, county and state for their sparkling representation of the State of Mississippi and their dazzling play; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Angels were ably coached by Head Coach Ford Sinclair and Assistant Coaches Randall Stringer and Anna Hough, and were composed of the following team members: Amy O'Hoyt, Sarah Hough, Katie Stova, Jessica Wright, Sonny Grabbert, Shelly Pittman, Carley Lowe, Alex Christie, Megan Stringer, Lauren Fast, Beth McShea and Hope Sinclair; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Ponytails were ably coached by Head Coach Buddy Moree and Assistant Coaches Jeff Robicheaux and Sherry Williams, and were composed of the following team members: Leah Kilpatrick, Natalie Anding, Lindsey Beal, Nichole Moree, Carrie Stringer, Kelly Williams, Candy Buchanon, Jennifer Holmes, Amanda Barker, Heather Ryals, Ashley Robicheaux and Abby Watts; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Belles were ably coached by Head Coach Perry Coggin and Assistant Coaches Gus Markins and Tommy Stringer, and were composed of the following team members: Dana O'Hoyt, Jennifer Branch, Breanne Fortenberry, Candy Coggin, April Longmire, Christie Allen, Lacie Christy, Missy Speights, Jennifer Moorman, Brandi Tynes, Jennifer Markins and Jacqueline Gray; and

WHEREAS, the Dixie Debs were ably coached by Head Coach Jamie Robinson and Assistant Coaches Lucretia Smith and Gerald Creel, and were composed of the following team members: Daphne Johnson, Kristie Williams, Nicole Holmes, Traci McMichael, Aimee Bracey, Jessica Thompson, Tara Porter, Brandi Perry, Jill Haney, Karen Howell, Kelly Bryant and Kelly Creel; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Columbia, Mississippi, Dixie Girls' Softball Teams for their outstanding tournament play.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Columbia, Mississippi, Dixie Girls' Softball Teams.
