A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING GEORGE THOMAS (TOMMY) EVERETT III UPON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MAGEE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT. 

WHEREAS, George Thomas (Tommy) Everett III joined the Magee Volunteer Fire Department in May, 1950; and

WHEREAS, at that time, the City of Magee had recently appointed Mr. F.J. Dickey and 15 other local men to organize the volunteer fire department, had donated land for the first fire station and purchased the first fire truck, and these men donated their time and skills to build the new fire station; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Everett's first meeting with the Magee Volunteer Fire Department was the last meeting held prior to moving into the newly constructed station, and he has been with the department since that time; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Everett was born on June 7, 1927, in D'Lo, Mississippi, and moved to Magee in 1932 where he attended elementary and high school before being called to active service in the U.S. Navy in June of 1945; and

WHEREAS, after his tour of active duty he returned to Magee where he began his business career in 1950, and married Willie Grace Horn on March 18, 1951; the couple had three children: Steven George Everett, Susan Grace Everett and John Thomas Everett; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Everett has witnessed many changes in firefighting technique in his many years of service, but insists that the equipment and facilities used by the Magee Volunteer Fire Department are the best in the state due to the dedication of the city and county administration, and all firefighters who have served in the past; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Everett is a perfect example of the dedicated service required of the members of all volunteer fire departments in Mississippi, and we are most grateful for his years of service and his spirit of volunteerism toward his community:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, the House of Representatives Concurring therein, That we do hereby commend George Thomas (Tommy) Everett III for his many years of dedicated service to the Magee Volunteer Fire Department upon the occasion of his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to Tommy Everett and his family, and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
