A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI'S 1998 MISS HOSPITALITY, MARY LACY MONTGOMERY OF HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI. 

WHEREAS, the 1998 Mississippi Miss Hospitality, Mary Lacy Montgomery of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is the 20-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Montgomery; and

WHEREAS, she is the 48th young woman in Mississippi's history to wear the Miss Hospitality crown, and Mary Lacy is the first Mississippi Miss Hospitality from Hattiesburg in 37 years; and

WHEREAS, Mary Lacy Montgomery is a 1995 graduate of Hattiesburg High School, where among her high school activities, Mary Lacy was a delegate to Presidential Classroom in Washington, D.C. and Girls' State; she was active in Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera appearing in various roles, and as a member of First Baptist Church of Hattiesburg, Mary Lacy was involved in church music and youth mission projects; and

WHEREAS, Mary Lacy Montgomery attends the University of Mississippi where she is pursuing a degree in fashion merchandising, is a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Ole Miss Matchmates, Ole Miss Ambassadors, Associated Student Body Alumni Committee, University Chamber Singers, Women's Glee, University Modeling Board, ROTC Little Sister, and is active in volunteer work with people with mental disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi's Miss Hospitality is a "Mississippi tradition," beginning in 1949 under Governor Fielding Wright and the Mississippi Legislature, Miss Hospitality is entering its 49th year and will be held in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, as Mississippi Miss Hospitality, Mary Lacy Montgomery will travel approximately 50,000 miles as an ambassador promoting the state's tourism and economic efforts; and

WHEREAS, Mary Lacy is a sixth generation Mississippian whose paternal grandfather, the late Mr. Montgomery of Pickens, served in the Mississippi Legislature from 1952-1958:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby take great pride in commending and congratulating Mississippi Miss Hospitality 1998, Mary Lacy Montgomery of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mississippi Miss Hospitality and copies be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
