A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DR. DAVID DAIGNEAULT, DIRECTOR OF BANDS, GRENADA, MISSISSIPPI, UPON HIS RECEIPT OF THE ARTS EDUCATION AWARD AS PART OF THE 1998 GOVERNOR'S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS. 

WHEREAS, in Grenada, Mississippi, the high school band keeps the community marching forward, and its director, Dr. David Daigneault, is the recipient of the Arts Education Award of the 1998 Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Daigneault is the driving force behind music education in Grenada: for 19 years he has struck a chord with students, parents and community members, which helped him earn the honor of 1997 National High School Band Director of the Year by the National High School Band Directors Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Daigneault supervises five band directors and oversees the study of fine arts in the Grenada School District; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure, excellence in music education has thrived: his leadership has tripled band participation to more than 700 students in Grades 6-12; and

WHEREAS, the high school band has earned 39 Grand Championships or Best in Class honors in eight states and 245 superior ratings in concert, marching, sight reading jazz; and

WHEREAS, the Grenada Band was selected as the featured NBC Band, receiving international television coverage in the 1995 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and marched in this year's Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Daigneault has touched the lives of more than 5,000 Mississippi students, and not only has he lead students to music, he has taught sportsmanship and teamwork and instilled school pride:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. David Daigneault, Director of Bands, Grenada, Mississippi, upon his receipt of the Arts Education Award as part of the 1998 Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Dr. Daigneault and that copies be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
