A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TERRY HIGH SCHOOL BAND FOR ITS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 1997. 

WHEREAS, the Terry High School Band of Terry, Mississippi, under the direction of Mr. Mike Hampton, enjoyed an outstanding season in 1997; and

WHEREAS, its accomplishments began in April 1997 when it appeared in the Peach Blossom Classic in Atlanta, Georgia, and received All Superior ratings for concert band and jazz band, and was awarded 1st place band and 1st place musical group; and

WHEREAS, in October 1997, the "Bulldog" Marching Band attained All Superior ratings at the State Marching Festival for band, drum line, flag line and drum major; and

WHEREAS, in December the band participated in the Liberty Bowl Invitational Band Festival and was awarded the following: 1st place band in field show and parade, 1st place drum line in field show and parade, 1st place flag line in field show and parade, 1st place drum major in field show, and 1st place general effect in field show; and

WHEREAS, the Terry Band also performed at the Liberty Bowl half-time show with bands from seven different states and the country/rock band "Alabama"; and

WHEREAS, this band received excellent media coverage on Jackson Channel 3 News and in The Clarion Ledger; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of high school musicians who represent the best in Mississippi's public school programs:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Terry High School Band and Director Mike Hampton for their outstanding season and accomplishments during 1997, and wish them continued success in their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to the Terry High School Band and be made available to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
