AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 77-9-483, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THAT, BEFORE EMPLOYMENT, RAILROAD INSPECTORS BE RECOGNIZED BY THE STATE AND THE FEDERAL RAILROAD ADMINISTRATION AS QUALIFIED TO PERFORM RAILROAD SAFETY INSPECTIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

 

SECTION 1. Section 77-9-483, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

77-9-483. The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall employ as railroad inspectors persons recognized by the state and by the Federal Railroad Administration as being qualified to perform railroad safety inspections or capable of being trained and qualified within a short period of time. After selection, the inspectors shall go through thirty (30) days of intensive instruction of the laws of this state pertaining to the State Tax Commission, the Department of Public Safety, and the  * * * Mississippi Department of Transportation, together with rules and regulations of all of these departments and the laws of this state pertaining to arrests.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
