AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-73, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO EXCEPT ALL ACADEMIC OFFICIALS, MEMBERS OF THE TEACHING STAFFS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING FROM THE REQUIREMENT THAT ALL STATE AND NON-STATE SERVICE EMPLOYEES BE PAID ON A DELAYED BASIS TWICE A MONTH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 25-3-73, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

25-3-73. From and after January 1, 1999, all state and non-state service employees as defined in Section 25-9-107, Mississippi Code of 1972, except all academic officials, members of the teaching staffs and employees of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and the various institutions and agencies under its management and control, shall be paid on a delayed basis twice a month. If such employees' payday falls on a state holiday as set forth in Section 3-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, or on a Saturday or Sunday, such employees shall be paid on the working day preceding such holiday, Saturday or Sunday.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
