AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 25-3-73, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROVIDE THAT STATE EMPLOYEES MAY CHOOSE TO BE PAID ONCE PER MONTH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 25-3-73, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

25-3-73. From and after January 1, 1999, all state and nonstate service employees as defined in Section 25-9-107, Mississippi Code of 1972, shall be paid on a delayed basis twice a month, unless the employee elects in writing to be paid once a month. If such employees' payday falls on a state holiday as set forth in Section 3-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, or on a Saturday or Sunday, such employees shall be paid on the working day preceding such holiday, Saturday or Sunday.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1998.
