A RESOLUTION AFFIRMING THE VITAL IMPORTANCE OF SPACE EXPLORATION AND MEMORIALIZING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO MAINTAIN THIS NATION'S COMMITMENT TO THE PEACEFUL EXPLORATION OF SPACE BY FORGING A PUBLIC POLICY ENSURING THAT SPACE EXPLORATION, DEVELOPMENT AND USE WILL BE A NATIONAL PRIORITY. 

WHEREAS, the United States of America has provided visionary leadership in the exploration of space; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of the United States of America, the peaceful exploration of space has generated an understanding of our sacred responsibility as stewards of our unique planet of life; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America's investment in space and discoveries from this investment has produced knowledge and innovative technologies that have saved countless lives and enhanced the quality of life; and

WHEREAS, the economic spin-offs from the space program have helped our nation to flourish and prosper; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America's exploits in space have profoundly shaped human thought and understanding in the 20th century; and

WHEREAS, Mission HOME (Harvesting Opportunity for Mother Earth) has been instrumental in promoting an awareness and an understanding of the benefits and vital importance of space exploration; and

WHEREAS, in the formation of public policy that will lead the United States of America into the 21st century, it is imperative that the elected representatives of the people ensure that America will maintain its leadership and commitment in the exploration, development and use of space:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we affirm the vital importance of space exploration to this nation and memorialize the members of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate to forge a public policy that will maintain space exploration, development and use as a national priority.
