House Resolution 41

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. SUE SMYLIE THOMPSON AS THE 50TH PRESIDENT OF THE MISSISSIPPI FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS. 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Sue Smylie Thompson of Meridian, is currently serving as President of the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs (MFWC); and

WHEREAS, celebrating their 100th anniversary, the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs was organized on May 25, 1898, at the Attala County Courthouse in Kosciusko, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Thompson chose the theme, "Celebrate Yesterday's Memories - Create Tomorrow's Visions," for the centennial celebration of the Mississippi Federation scheduled for May 23, 24, and 25, 1998, in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, in 1904, the Mississippi Federation affiliated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, whose headquarters was located in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, having 100% of its clubs enrolled in the General Federation, the MFWC has been involved in many projects which were promoted by the General Federation and which have benefitted local communities in Mississippi, particularly the community improvement project, with the Mississippi Federation having 100% of its clubs enrolled many times; and

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives finds it appropriate to pay special tribute to such an outstanding community leader as Mrs. Sue Smylie Thompson, for her unselfish dedication as President of the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs and for the accomplishments of the organization under her leadership:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Sue Smylie Thompson for her service as the 50th President of the Mississippi Federation of Women's Clubs.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Sue Smylie Thompson and to the Capitol Press Corps.
