A RESOLUTION COMMENDING GENTRY HIGH SCHOOL RAMS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the Gentry High School Rams Boys Basketball Team finished the 1997-1998 season with an outstanding record of 34 wins and only one loss; and

WHEREAS, the Gentry Rams competed in various tournaments during the season, winning the North Central Athletic Conference Tournament, the District 3 Class 5A Tournament and the North State Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Rams did very well in the state playoffs, finishing as the runner up in the Class 5A Boys State Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individuals have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Derrick Bush to the NCAC All-Tournament Team, the All-District 3 Class 5A Tournament Team, North State All-Tournament Team, All-State Tournament Team, and the Mississippi All-Star Team; the selection of Quintarrius Hodges as the Most Valuable Player in the NCAC, as the Most Valuable Player in the District 3 Class 5A Tournament, NCAC All-Tournament Team, the All-District 3 Class 5A Tournament Team, the North State All-Tournament Team, the All-State Tournament Team, and to The Clarion-Ledger All-State Team; the naming of Robert Kent the All-District 3 Class 5A Tournament Team, to the North State All-Tournament Team and to the All-State Tournament Team; the selection of Derrick Scales to the NCAC All-Tournament Team and the All-District 3 Class 5A Tournament Team; the naming of Curtisso Jennings to the NCAC All-Tournament Team; and the selection of Milas Randle to the NCAC All-Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS, the Rams have been superbly coached by Head Coach Elmo Hickingbottom and Assistant Coaches Eddy Calhoun, Johnnie Gibbs and Kurt Price, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Hickingbottom has brought additional honor to himself and to Gentry High School by being selected as the NCAC Coach of the Year and as the coach for the Mississippi All-Star Team; and

WHEREAS, the Gentry Rams have been ranked No. 2 in the Mississippi Clarion-Ledger poll and No. 2 in the Associated Press poll; and

WHEREAS, the Rams have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Gentry High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Gentry High School Rams Boys Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Elmo Hickingbottom and Assistant Coaches Eddy Calhoun, Johnnie Gibbs and Kurt Price, for their outstanding 1997-1998 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Gentry High School, Head Coach Elmo Hickingbottom and Assistant Coaches Eddy Calhoun, Johnnie Gibbs and Kurt Price and the Capitol Press Corps.
