A RESOLUTION COMMENDING BYHALIA HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE DIVISION 3 CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Byhalia High School Indians Boys Basketball Team finished the 1997-1998 season with an outstanding record of 33 wins and only three losses; and
WHEREAS, the Indians did very well in the state playoffs, participating in the semifinals of the State Championship games for the first time in school history; and
WHEREAS, many individuals have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Contrell Alexander, Kendrick Duncan, Fredrick Falkner, Dennis Isom and Mario Moore to the All-Division Team, and the selection of Dennis Isom as the All-State Most Valuable Player Division 3 Class 3A; and
WHEREAS, the team has been led by the senior team members including Kendrick Duncan, Fredrick Falkner, Mario Moore and Antonio Thomas; and
WHEREAS, the Indians have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Charles Gillespie who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, Coach Gillespie has brought additional honor to himself and to Byhalia High School by being selected Coach of the Year for Division 3 Class 3A; and
WHEREAS, the Indians have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach and bring honor to Byhalia High School; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Byhalia High School Indians Boys Basketball Team and their coach, Head Coach Charles Gillespie, for their outstanding 1997-1998 season, for winning the Division 3 Class 3A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Byhalia High School and Head Coach Charles Gillespie.
