House Resolution 27

A RESOLUTION TO AMEND RULE 18A OF THE HOUSE RULES TO ALLOW CASUAL DRESS TO BE WORN BY HOUSE MEMBERS IN CERTAIN INSTANCES. 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That Rule 18A of the 1996-2000 Rules of the House is amended as follows:

"18A. Whenever a member is on the floor of the House while the House is in session, each male member of the House shall wear a coat and necktie, * * * and each female member of the House shall wear appropriate attire, except that male members may remove their coats when seated.

When the House is in session on a Saturday or Sunday, or

when the House is in session on a Friday and is expected to adjourn before 12:00 noon, a member may wear casual dress. Casual dress shall not include wind suits or wind pants or faded denim. All members are expected to dress, even casually, with full regard for the dignity of the House of Representatives. The Speaker shall enforce this rule diligently. No visitor or guest on the House floor shall be required to comply with this rule."
