A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. RITA SHAW FOR WINNING THE 1997 AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION JUNIOR BARREL RACING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Rita Shaw, of Crane Creek, Mississippi, competed in the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship, becoming the 1997 AQHA Junior World Champion in Barrel Racing; and

WHEREAS, since the young age of nine years, Mrs. Shaw has been an avid participant in equestrian sports with an emphasis on barrel racing; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Shaw's involvement in the local 4-H program provided her with the basic skills and knowledge of rodeo, allowing her the opportunity to compete in high school rodeos; and

WHEREAS, with years of hard work and dedication, Mrs. Shaw moved up to the amateur level before becoming a professional in the rodeo arena; and

WHEREAS, after training her first horse, Jimmermans Moon, Mrs. Shaw began training professionally in 1990, having emerged several champions under her discipline; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Shaw personally trained Classiestjetyet, who holds the world record for winning the most American Junior Quarter Horse Association World Title Championships, which is six times; and

WHEREAS, in 1994, another one of the horses she trained, Automatic Cash won the Reserve AQHA Junior Championship and two years later won the Reserve AQHA Senior Championship; and

WHEREAS, throughout her career, Mrs. Shaw has won five trophy saddles and 32 belt buckles and in November 1997, she received her greatest honor, winning the AQHA Junior Barrel Racing World Championship while riding Flaminanflyin, one of the horses she personally trained; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Shaw is lovingly supported in all her endeavors by her husband, Randall, and their daughter, Lindsey; and

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives finds it most appropriate to pay tribute to such an outstanding Mississippian as Mrs. Rita Shaw, who used her field of expertise to bring great pride to the State of Mississippi by winning a world championship:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Rita Shaw for winning the 1997 American Quarter Horse Association Junior Barrel Racing World Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Rita Shaw and the Capitol Press Corps.
