House Concurrent Resolution 157

(As Adopted by House and Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING GREENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL HONEYBEES GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.  

WHEREAS, the Greenville High School Honeybees Girls Basketball Team finished the 1997-1998 season with an outstanding record of 33 wins and only two losses; and

WHEREAS, the Honeybees did very well in the state playoffs, winning the District 5A North State Tournament and finishing as runner-up in the State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the 1997-1998 Greenville Honeybees consists of players, Veronica Coffey, Anita Cole, Jennifer Diggins, Latonya Gibson, Glenda Grant, Kwinta Green, Erica Hargrove, Kezia Harris, Melody Henderson, Tomika Phillips, Trinekka Smith, Latoya Thomas, Muneerah Williams and Shanerrie Young and managers, Erin Howard, Sherita Lenard and Cecilia Watson; and

WHEREAS, many individuals have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Latoya Thomas as Player of the Year and Glenda Grant, Latoya Thomas and Muneerah Williams to the All-State Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS, the Honeybees have been superbly coached by Head Coach Burley C. Allen and Assistant Coaches James Foard and Archie Quinn, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Honeybees have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Greenville High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Greenville High School Honeybees Girls Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Burley C. Allen and Assistant Coaches James Foard and Archie Quinn for their outstanding 1997-1998 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Greenville High School, Head Coach Burley C. Allen, Assistant Coaches James Foard and Archie Quinn and the Capitol Press Corps.
