A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS ELISA A. CARNEY ON HER OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS. 

WHEREAS, Miss Elisa A. Carney of Quitman, was nominated for the 1998 All-Mississippi Academic Team, as part of the All-USA Community and Junior College Academic Team; and

WHEREAS, Miss Carney, a 1996 alumna of Quitman High School, is currently a sophomore with a 4.0 grade point average, majoring in international business at Hinds Community College in Raymond; and

WHEREAS, Miss Carney serves as President of the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and President of the Hinds Community College Associated Student Government; and

WHEREAS, participating in several organizations, Miss Carney is a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, a member of Alpha Beta Gamma, serves on the Hinds Community College District Student Affairs Council, serves on the Athletic Committee, the Planning and Evaluation Committee and the Traffic Appeals Committee; and

WHEREAS, Miss Carney serves her community through her involvement with fund-raising for the Arthritis Foundation, office work for Habitat for Humanity, serves as the team captain for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, helps with the Leukemia Society, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Disabled Veterans and "Keep Jackson Beautiful"; and

WHEREAS, Miss Carney is a President's List Scholar, a member of Who's Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges and was recently honored as Hinds Community College's representative to the 1998 HEADWAE program; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend academic excellence by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do commend Miss Elisa A. Carney for her many outstanding academic accomplishments and extend to her our best wishes in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Elisa A. Carney and the Capitol Press Corps.
