A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. HYMAN FOLKES MCCARTY, JR., FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS COMMUNITY, STATE AND INDUSTRY. 

WHEREAS, a native Mississippian, Mr. H. F. McCarty, Jr., a World War II veteran, was born on June 13, 1921, in Ovett, Mississippi, and has devoted great time and energy to his local and state communities; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Shubuta High School, Mr. McCarty furthered his education at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi and earned a master's degree from the University of South Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty began his career working with his father in a feed and seed store in Magee, Mississippi, and during the course of 47 years, Mr. McCarty's family company, McCarty Farms, Inc., grew to be the 14th largest poultry company in the United States; and

WHEREAS, serving as Chairman of the Board of McCarty Farms, Mr. McCarty always strived to enrich the quality of life of his customers, employees, growers and communities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty also served his community in other capacities by participating and chairing organizations such as the local chamber of commerce and economic development council; serving as former president of the Magee Lions Club, as former president of the Mississippi Poultry Association and the Southeastern Poultry and Egg Association; he is a lifetime director of the National Broiler Council; he served as a board member of the Methodist Hour of Mississippi; he is a lifetime trustee of Millsaps College and Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center; and he serves as a Sunday School teacher and as Chairman of the Finance Committee of First United Methodist Church of Magee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty has received numerous awards for his outstanding service, including the Order of Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America, an honorary doctorate from Millsaps College, the Outstanding Citizen of Magee Award, the Mississippi Philanthropist of the Year, and his selection to the Mississippi Business Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Poultry Association Hall of Fame and the Southeastern Poultry Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, strongly believing in supporting higher education in the State of Mississippi, Mr. McCarty has funded scholarships, faculty professorships and chairs at many of the public universities and private colleges in the state; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McCarty is lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Mary Ann, their four children, John, Patti, Kathy and Marsha, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it appropriate to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. H. F. McCarty, Jr., whose long and distinguished career epitomizes a life rich in achievement and service to his country, his family and his state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. H. F. McCarty, Jr., for his phenomenal contributions to his community and state, and extend to him our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. H. F. McCarty, Jr., and the Capitol Press Corps.
