House Concurrent Resolution 148

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MORTON HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE OVERALL CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, the Morton High School Panthers Boys Basketball Team finished the 1997-1998 season with a remarkable record of 35 wins and only two losses; and

WHEREAS, the Morton Panthers competed in various tournaments during the season, winning the East Central Community College Tournament, the Morton High School Tournament, the Meridian High School Tournament and the Central Mississippi Classic; and

WHEREAS, the Panthers did exceptionally well in state tournaments, winning the South State Championship and the Overall Class 3A Boys State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the 1997-1998 Morton High School Boys Basketball Team includes the following players: Richie Boozer, Lamond Bowie, Todd Butler, Roderick Clark, Marcus Holbert, Percy Kincaid, Alonzie Lyles, Lamarrio Mapp, Ashley McDougle, Ryan Merchant, Larry Smith, Kenny Stephens, Steven Wade and Prentiss Wilson; and

WHEREAS, many of the team members have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Lamond Bowie, Marcus Holbert and Prentiss Wilson to the All-State Team and the naming of Lamond Bowie, Roderick Clark, Marcus Holbert and Prentiss Wilson to the All-District Team; and

WHEREAS, the Panthers have been superbly coached by Head Coach Danny Grieves, completing his first year as Coach of Morton High School, and Assistant Coach Eddie Wade, each of whom has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Panthers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Morton High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidence by the youth of our state who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Morton High School Panthers Boys Basketball Team, Head Coach Danny Grieves and Assistant Coach Eddie Wade, for their outstanding 1997-1998 season, for winning the Class 3A Boys State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Morton High School, Coach Danny Grieves and Assistant Coach Eddie Wade.
