House Concurrent Resolution 144

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING FIRST SERGEANT CHARLES PARKER FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD. 

WHEREAS, First Sergeant Charles Parker enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard on August 30, 1965, and is assigned to Company B, 223rd Engineer Combat Battalion in Calhoun City, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, over the past 30 years, First Sergeant Parker has held various positions in the Mississippi Army National Guard, including Federal Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, Motor Sergeant, Construction Supervisor and First Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, through his leadership ability, motivation and very hard work, he helped bring his unit's strength from 90 personnel to 140 after reorganization; and

WHEREAS, First Sergeant Parker's technical, tactical, administrative and leadership skills were the directing factor in insuring the company received high evaluations in its past IG and Command Inspections; and

WHEREAS, leading by example, First Sergeant Parker has scored over the 300 point maximum in the past 14 Army Physical Fitness Tests he was administered; and

WHEREAS, First Sergeant Parker has received numerous awards and medals throughout his career, including the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, four Army Good Conduct Medals, five Reserve Components Achievement Medals, three Armed Forces Reserve Medals, two National Defense Medals, 14 Army Physical Fitness Awards and the State Emergency Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, First Sergeant Parker is lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, Sandra, and their children, Brent, Kent and Vanessa; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it appropriate to pay special tribute to a remarkable soldier such as First Sergeant Charles Parker, whose long and distinguished career epitomizes a life rich in achievement and service to his fellowman:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend First Sergeant Charles Parker for his many years of outstanding service to the Mississippi Army National Guard and extend to him our best wishes in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to First Sergeant Charles Parker and the Capitol Press Corps.
