A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. MARY JONES ON BEING NAMED PARENT OF THE YEAR IN THE PASCAGOULA SCHOOL DISTRICT. 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mary Jones, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, was nominated Parent of the Year to represent Trent Lott Middle School by Principal Anthony Ladner; and

WHEREAS, as a young child, Mrs. Jones dreamed of being a mother and today is the proud mother of a son, Brandon, a junior at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, and a daughter, Mary Etta, an eighth grade student at Trent Lott Middle School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones has been volunteering in the Pascagoula School District since 1983, when her son, Brandon, was a first grader at Eastlawn Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, in addition to Eastlawn, Mrs. Jones has volunteered her time at Cherokee Elementary and Beach Elementary Schools serving as an office assistant, proctoring for testing, assisting with eye exams and serving refreshments in the teachers' lounge; and

WHEREAS, currently, Mrs. Jones is president of the Parent, Teacher, Student Organization at Trent Lott Middle School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones has been involved in a number of the organization's projects including the purchase of an awning to prohibit people getting drenched in inclement weather, an ongoing beautification and landscaping project and replacing the Trent Lott bust; and

WHEREAS, deeply committed to her children because of her responsibility as a parent, Mrs. Jones has been fortunate to work in environments in which her employer was aware that her family came first; and

WHEREAS, previously employed as a secretary at First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, Mrs. Jones has worked for her husband, a certified public accountant, as a receptionist/secretary for the past 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones believes that her most important responsibility as a parent is the spiritual well-being of her children; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones and her family are active members of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, where she teaches Sunday School; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones is supported lovingly in all her endeavors by her husband, Mr. Edward R. Jones, and her two children, Brandon and Mary Etta; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it most appropriate to pay special tribute to such an outstanding woman and mother as Mrs. Jones, who, as Parent of the Year, will now go on to represent the Pascagoula School District at the state level:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate Mrs. Mary Jones on being named Parent of the Year in the Pascagoula School District and extend our best wishes to her in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Mary Jones and the Capitol Press Corps.
