House Concurrent Resolution 95

WHEREAS, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. White served 12 years in the Mississippi Legislature, 12 years on the Board of the American Farm Bureau Federation and 30 years plus on the Board of Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation. She and husband, Gordon White, were guests of President and Mrs. Reagan for a State Dinner at the White House honoring the Amir of Bahrain. She served on the Board of Associated County Women of the World representing Farm Bureau women in nine world conferences including Australia, Africa and India, and special meetings in Russia and Poland. She was appointed by the United States Department of Agriculture to participate in five World Trade Missions, which included Asia, Europe, Brazil and Argentina. Mrs. White drove a school bus, served as Sunday School teacher in her local church, and on a local hospital board. She assisted in the operation of her family-owned telephone company and, with her late husband, in their family cattle operation; and

WHEREAS, in regard for her efforts in finding time to contribute to her community of Obadiah, Mrs. White was honored in Jackson, Mississippi, as one of nine Mississippi women selected as "Power of One" honoree; and

WHEREAS, each year during the Mississippi Woman Conference, a committee chooses women from across the state who best balance their jobs, families and community service; and

WHEREAS, the conference is sponsored by Governor and Mrs. Kirk Fordice and St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. White has been active in her community for over 40 years and is a leader in every respect of her life:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Berta Lee White on being selected as a "Power of One" honoree and wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Berta Lee White and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
