A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY CHEERLEADERS FOR WINNING THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE DIVISION II NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, competing in the Universal Cheerleaders Association National Championship on January 7-9, 1998, at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the Delta State University Cheerleaders won their third consecutive Division II National Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Delta State University Cheerleading Program has brought great pride and honor to the university and State of Mississippi by never placing lower than second place and winning the national championship four times, which no other Division II university in the nation has accomplished; and

WHEREAS, garnering individual honors in the national partner stunt competition, in 1997, Delta State was the only school among all divisions to win a national championship and have two couples place in the top five among all colleges and universities; and

WHEREAS, in 1998, the Delta State Cheerleading Squad had a couple place third among all colleges and universities while capturing the team title for an unprecedented third year in a row; and

WHEREAS, the Delta State University Cheerleaders have been well coached and inspired by Coach Trace Pate, who has broadened the squad's knowledge and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Pate, first year cheerleading coach, has brought additional honor to himself and to Delta State University by being selected as one of eight judges nationwide for the 1998 National High School All-Star Competition to be held this spring in Orlando, Florida; and

WHEREAS, the Delta State University Cheerleading Program has become one of the most respected college cheerleading programs among all colleges and universities in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi finds it most appropriate to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by our young adults, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do commend and congratulate the Delta State University Cheerleaders and their Coach Trace Pate on winning the Division II National Championship for the third consecutive year and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be provided to Delta State University, Coach Trace Pate and the Capitol Press Corps.
