House Concurrent Resolution 39

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING SHERIFF RICKY BANKS ON HIS SERVICE TO LEFLORE COUNTY. 

WHEREAS, Sheriff Ricky Banks began his career with the Leflore County Sheriff's Department as a deputy in 1972, and within a year of joining the force, Sheriff Banks' outstanding leadership skills led to his promotion to Chief Deputy; and

WHEREAS, Ricky Banks was appointed to fulfill the duties of Sheriff Rufus Freeman, when Sheriff Freeman suffered a massive stroke in 1978; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Banks, who ran for the office of Sheriff in 1979 and won, has been unopposed in every election since then and currently is serving in his fifth term; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Banks dedicates his time and efforts to improving the Leflore County Sheriff's Department by seeing that his officers are equipped with vehicles, weapons, radios and reasonable salaries; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Banks, who is in his third term as President of the Mississippi Sheriff's Association, has received numerous awards, including two Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Awards, a plaque from the Justice Department for helping the federal law enforcement agency and a Citizen Drug Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Banks is lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his wife of 29 years, Ann Banks, and his daughter, Lee Ann Tucker, who is married to William Tucker, and grandson, Banks Tucker; and

WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Mississippi believes that it is most appropriate to pay special tribute to such an outstanding Mississippian as Sheriff Ricky Banks, who has generously contributed his exceptional wisdom, experience and abilities to improving the quality of life for the residents of Leflore County:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That the accomplishments of Sheriff Ricky Banks be commended by the State of Mississippi as a true example of a remarkable and dedicated citizen whose long and distinguished career epitomizes a life rich in achievement and service to his fellowman.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Sheriff Ricky Banks and the Capitol Press Corps.
