House Concurrent Resolution 16

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GEORGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL REBELS BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON, AND FOR WINNING THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. 

WHEREAS, the George County High School Rebels Boys Baseball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an outstanding record of 30 wins and 8 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels did very well in tournament play this year, winning the Class 4A State Championship and the Class 4A South State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Bruce Thornton, who has broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Rebels have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to George County High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and gratulate the George County High School Rebels Boys Baseball team and their coach, Bruce Thornton, for their outstanding 1996-1997 season, for winning the state championship, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to George County High School, Coach Bruce Thornton and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
