A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TO DESIGNATE CERTAIN HIGHWAYS AND HISTORICAL SITES AS BLUES ALLEY. 

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi is known internationally as the birthplace of the Blues; and

WHEREAS, there are numerous highways which have been the subject of Blues songs and which should be designated as scenic routes to promote tourism in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, numerous sites exist throughout Mississippi where Blues artists were born, lived and performed which should be designated as historical sites to promote tourism; and

WHEREAS, by designating and marking these highways and historical sites, the State of Mississippi will be able to attract tourists from around the world who are eager to learn about Mississippi's rich Blues legacy:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby memorialize the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development in cooperation with the political subdivisions of the state, to designate highways and historical sites throughout the state, which are part of the history of the Blues, as Blues Alley.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development may solicit funds from any lawful public or private source, to assist in the creation of Blues Alley.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development.
