House Bill 1859

AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI, TO APPOINT PERSONS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN RESIDENTS OF THE CITY FOR FIVE YEARS TO REPRESENT CERTAIN WARDS AS MEMBERS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OF SUCH CITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 21-31-5(1)(b) to the contrary, the governing authorities of the City of Gulfport, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized to appoint persons who have not been residents of the city for at least five (5) years to represent Wards 6 and 7 as members of the civil service commission of such city.

(2) This section shall stand repealed from and after the date the annexed area in Wards 6 and 7 has been included within the corporate limits of the City of Gulfport for a period of five (5) years.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
