AN ACT TO REENACT AND AMEND CHAPTER 966, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1996, WHICH REENACTED AND AMENDED CHAPTER 926, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 1995, TO EXTEND THE REPEALER DATE FROM JULY 1, 1998, TO JULY 1, 2002; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Chapter 926, Local and Private Laws of 1995, as amended by Chapter 966, Local and Private Laws of 1996, is reenacted and amended as follows:

Section 1. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Pearl are hereby authorized and empowered, in their discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on the minutes of the governing authorities, to levy additional court costs in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor filed in the municipal court of such municipality.

(2) The avails of any additional court costs imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be expended by the municipality solely to fund the purchase of protective body armor for police officers of the municipality.

(3) This act shall stand repealed from and after July 1, 2002.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
