AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF WAYNE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE JUSTICE COURT OF THE COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE CRIMESTOPPERS PROGRAM WITHIN THE COUNTY; TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF WAYNESBORO, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF THE CITY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE CRIMESTOPPERS PROGRAM WITHIN THE CITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Wayne County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the justice court of such county.

(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the county to Crimestoppers of Wayne County, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Wayne County, Mississippi.

SECTION 2. (1) The governing authorities of the City of Waynesboro, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of such city.

(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the city to Crimestoppers of Wayne County, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Wayne County, Mississippi.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
