AN ACT TO CREATE THE MISSISSIPPI SILVER-HAIRED LEGISLATURE; TO AUTHORIZE THE SILVER-HAIRED LEGISLATURE TO MEET AT THE STATE CAPITOL FOR A CERTAIN TIME EVERY OTHER YEAR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. There is created the Mississippi Silver-Haired Legislature. Its members shall be sixty (60) years of age or older and shall be selected in accordance with procedures developed by the Office of the Secretary of State in coordination with the state's network of aging programs.

The Silver-Haired Legislature is authorized to meet every other year at the State Capitol for no more than one (1) week in any year at a time when the Legislature is not in regular or extraordinary session.

The Silver-Haired Legislature may adopt bylaws to govern its internal procedures and such body may adopt such measures as it deems appropriate to present to the State Legislature for consideration.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1998.
