AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TO ESTABLISH A PROGRAM TO PROVIDE GRANTS TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATIONS TO ASSIST IN PURCHASING COMPUTERS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT TO ENHANCE THEIR TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES IN ORDER TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE STATE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The Department of Economic and Community Development may establish a grant program to assist community development corporations in purchasing computers and other equipment to enhance their technical capabilities in order to support community development projects and activities within the state. Any community development corporation may apply for funds under this section. The Department of Economic and Community Development may establish and implement criteria for determining which community development corporations will receive a grant and the amount of the grant. The assistance authorized under this section is in addition to any other type of assistance authorized by law.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1998.
