AN ACT TO DIRECT THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF CONSTRUCTING A BRIDGE ACROSS THE BIG BLACK RIVER CONNECTING WARREN AND HINDS COUNTIES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall conduct a study to determine the feasibility of constructing a bridge across the Big Black River connecting Warren and Hinds Counties, beginning at the Flowers exit on Interstate 20 and extending southerly to U.S. Highway 80. Such study shall include the estimated cost of construction, the projected vehicular traffic count across such bridge, the date that preliminary engineering and right-of-way acquisition may begin, the approximate date of the letting of all contracts for such construction, the approximate date of final completion of construction, a comparative analysis of other locations in the general vicinity suitable for the construction of a similar bridge, and such other information and data as the department deems helpful for determining the feasibility of such project. A copy of the study shall be filed no later than January 1, 1999, with the Clerk of the House of Representatives and the Secretary of the Senate.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1998.
