AN ACT TO DIRECT THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO CONDUCT A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY AND ASSESSMENT OF THE PORTS AND PORT SYSTEM IN MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall conduct a comprehensive study and assessment of the ports in Mississippi, which shall include the performance of an inventory and assessment of the capability of existing facilities to meet current demand, an assessment of the role of ports within the intrastate, interstate and national transportation systems, an investigation of the opportunities for cargo growth in the port system, an analysis of the capital needed to meet projected demands by the year 2020 and a recommendation of appropriate funding priorities. The costs of such study and assessment shall be paid out of any funds as the Legislature may appropriate and make available for such purpose.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
