AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT PERSONS LICENSED TO PRACTICE VETERINARY MEDICINE SHALL WRITE PRESCRIPTIONS FOR DRUGS AND OTHER HEALTH PREPARATIONS THAT THEY RECOMMEND FOR THE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS; TO PROVIDE THAT THE PRESCRIPTIONS MAY BE FILLED BY ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION AUTHORIZED TO SELL ANIMAL HEALTH PREPARATIONS BY THE BOARD OF ANIMAL HEALTH OR BY ANY LICENSED VETERINARIAN; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Persons licensed to practice veterinary medicine under Section 73-39-1 et seq. shall write prescriptions for drugs and other health preparations that they recommend for the treatment of animals. Such prescriptions may be filled by any person, firm or corporation authorized to sell animal health preparations by the Board of Animal Health under Section 69-17-3 or by any veterinarian licensed under Section 73-39-1. The treating veterinarians shall not specify where the prescriptions are to be filled.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1998.
