AN ACT TO CREATE THE FELONY OFFENSE OF FILING FALSE CHARGES; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF THIS ACT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Any person who shall file criminal charges against another person knowing such charges to be false shall be guilty of a felony and upon conviction shall be fined not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) or imprisoned for up to five (5) years, or both.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1998.
