Senate Concurrent Resolution 610

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL BLUE DEVILS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 1996-1997 SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the Ashland High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an outstanding record of 36 wins and four losses; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils are the 1996-1997 State Division 2 2-A Champions by virtue of winning the championship tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils competed in and won the West Union Tournament, the Falkner Tournament, the Walnut Classic Tournament and the North Pontotoc Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils had players selected to the All-Division team: Clint Gillespie, Leon Crawford and Tavares Reaves; All-North-Half team: Clint Gillespie, Leon Crawford, Tavares Reaves and Garrett Terry; and All-State team: Clint Gillespie, Leon Crawford and Tareyton Mason; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Jon Ginn and by Assistant Coaches Cortez Terry and Dwight Allen, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Devils have developed a winning and cooperative spirit with a team motto "We believe," and an excellent degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Ashland High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ashland High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Jon Ginn for their outstanding 1996-1997 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ashland High School and Coach Jon Ginn.
