A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE INTERNATIONAL PAPER MOSS POINT MILL ON RECEIVING THE GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS-ARTS PATRON AWARD AS A CORPORATE SPONSOR. 

WHEREAS, the International Paper Moss Point Mill has recently been awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts-Arts Patron Award as a corporate patron;

WHEREAS, the International Paper Moss Point Mill has shown itself consistently to be a supporter of the arts in Jackson County, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, local schools and the annual Art in the Park festival receive the company's valuable donations of paper, providing art students more material to be creative and allowing festival participants to decorate thousands of pieces of paper with paint, glitter and other materials; and

WHEREAS, the International Paper Moss Point Mill recently made strides to give every student a chance to excel in the arts by making a $20,000.00 grant to the Jackson County Arts Council, which paid for a pilot program that infuses the arts into the basic curriculum for Grades Kindergarten through Six; and

WHEREAS, the International Paper Moss Point Mill financially supports the Jackson County Arts Council, the Moss Point Children's Theatre and the Melange Dance Company of Pascagoula; and

WHEREAS, the Melange Dance Company, through International Papers's support, established scholarships for financially disadvantaged students who want to study dance; and

WHEREAS, since 1991, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs has received support from the International Paper Moss Point Mill, and the museum, which is a center of learning and cultural enrichment for the Gulf Coast, offers a diverse program of exhibitions, classes, tours, publications and educational outreach for all citizens; and

WHEREAS, International Paper Moss Point Mill has been the primary sponsor of the Walter Anderson Museum of Art's monthly hands-on art workshops for children, parents and seniors:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the International Paper Moss Point Mill upon the occasion of its receipt of the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts-Art Patron Award as a corporate patron.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the International Paper Moss Point Mill.
