Senate Concurrent Resolution 544

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS KARI LITTON ON HER REIGN AS MISS MISSISSIPPI 1996. 

WHEREAS, Kari Litton proudly represents the State of Mississippi as Miss Mississippi 1996; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton captured the crown in Vicksburg on July 13, 1996; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton was a preliminary winner in both talent and swim wear at the pageant; and

WHEREAS, the striking beauty, charm, vivaciousness and dynamic singing of Kari Litton placed her as a Top Ten semifinalist in the 1996 Miss America pageant; and

WHEREAS, during her reign, she has tirelessly traveled throughout the state promoting her breast cancer awareness program entitled A.W.A.A.R. (All Women Are At Risk); and

WHEREAS, her program has been very successful; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton is an environmental activist and a promoter of youth hunting safety; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton, who is extremely versatile and talented, garnered honors and awards in high school and college; and

WHEREAS, admired and respected by her peers as well as her teachers, Kari Litton was the deserving recipient of numerous honors while at Pontotoc High School including: Miss Pontotoc High School, Most Popular, Most Beautiful, Homecoming Maid, Cheerleader Captain and Senior Class Treasurer; and

WHEREAS, at Itawamba Community College, she served as a State Education Board member, Kaleidoscope Showchoir vocalist, Most Beautiful and Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges; and

WHEREAS, at Mississippi State University she was selected as a Miss Reveille Beauty and Miss Mississippi State University 1994; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton has an exemplary career in pageants, having been selected Miss North Mississippi 1992, Miss Pontotoc 1993, Miss Mississippi State University 1994, Miss Dixie 1995, Miss New South 1996, Miss Mississippi Top Ten Finalist in 1992 and 1993, Miss Mississippi First Runner-Up 1994, Miss Mississippi Second Runner-Up 1995 and culminating with the coveted title, Miss Mississippi 1996; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton has always been encouraged and supported by her family; and

WHEREAS, she is a great credit to her parents Elton and Bonnie Litton and her brother, Brad Litton; and

WHEREAS, Kari Litton's beauty, talent, commitment to serving others and achievements have brought honor to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Kari Litton on her reign as Miss Mississippi 1996 and wish her success in her endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Kari Litton.
