A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF THOMAS L. COLE AND EXPRESSING THE LEGISLATURE'S DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY UPON HIS PASSING. 

WHEREAS, Thomas L. Cole, 60, passed away on September 27, 1996, at Baptist Memorial North Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Thomas L. Cole was born on September 20, 1936, in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, and was the son of Thomas Luther Cole and Grace Scrivner Cole; and

WHEREAS, Thomas L. Cole enlisted in the United States Army in 1955, serving in Germany, and completed his university education, receiving a degree in Slavic Department during which he served in embassies around the world;

WHEREAS, Thomas L. Cole was elected Mayor of Calhoun City in 1981 and went on to serve as Mayor for 15 years before his untimely death; and

WHEREAS, before being elected Mayor, Thomas L. Cole was active in the Calhoun City's Chamber of Commerce where he had previously served as Executive Director; and

WHEREAS, Thomas L. Cole was a member of the Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, the DAV, the Excel Board, the Calhoun County Development Association Board, and the Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church Administrative Board; and

WHEREAS, a loving and devoted husband and father, Thomas L. Cole was married to the lovely Donna Jones Cole and was the father of Patricia Cole Kendrick; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cole will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and public service of Thomas L. Cole and extend our deepest sympathy to the members of his family upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Donna Jones Cole and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
