Senate Concurrent Resolution 542

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EAST CENTRAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE WARRIORS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR 1996 WINNING SEASON. 

WHEREAS, the East Central Community College Warriors Football Team has had an exceptional 1996 season, finishing with a 10-1 record, the best since 1939; and

WHEREAS, among the many victories recorded was an exceptional 7-6 triumph over Middle Georgia College to take the Annual Huddle House Golden Isles Bowl Classic; and

WHEREAS, in their courageous bowl victory the team was convincingly led by freshman running back Mack Pittman who had 32 carries for 197 yards, scoring the sole touchdown, with the winning point drilled by kicker Shaun Walker; and

WHEREAS, the Warriors ended the year ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association poll; and

WHEREAS, the team is ably coached by Head Coach Willie "Tenny" Coats, who was chosen the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges' South Division Football Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Coach Coats' invaluable assistant coaches include Terry Underwood, Timmy Coats, Fredrick Lyons and Jon Williams; and

WHEREAS, numerous members of the Warriors have distinguished themselves by garnering individual All-State First, Second and Honorable Mention honors; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize outstanding accomplishments by students participating in the community college system of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we hereby commend and congratulate the East Central Community College Warriors Football Team for their tremendous 1996 winning season and we wish them continued success when they again take the field in 1997.
